Repatriation Workshop

These services are ideally begun a minimum of 60 days prior to the departure of the individual or family from the host country. Through interaction by telephone and e-mail with the individual, or family, essential information is obtained. Two steps are accomplished in that interaction:

  1. Coaching is provided on how to lessen the emotional impact of leaving the host country through steps by which closure can be brought to having resided there during the assignment.

  2. In e-mail exchanges and telephone visits, insights are gained into difficulties repatriation may bring in challenges of cultural readjustment to home. These exchanges facilitate preparation of a series of cultural readjustment learning experiences for the participants in a two-day workshop.

Preferably, the workshop is provided within four weeks after re-entry to the home country. The workshop is designed as two-days of interactive learning to equip participants in dealing with challenges likely to be faced in readjusting to the home culture and the domestic corporate culture. It will follow a syllabus prepared for each adult member of the repatriating family. The workshop will be conducted at a place of convenience for the participant(s) and approved by the company. The learning experiences will include a focus upon participant concerns, insights from the experiences of other repatriates, and suggestions for dealing with reverse culture shock. There will be extensive Q & A exchanges with content made more emphatic through PowerPoint presentations. Each participant will receive a detailed syllabus for future reference when reexamining the coming home experience in repatriation.
