When invited we intervene in times of crisis for individuals and families during the expatriate assignment. Such services can be timely and effective for challenged expatriates. That intervention is typically provided on an emergency basis, or as needed, after the expatriate is living in the country of assignment. We have served expatriates facing crises in job performance and marital conflict, as well as coaching an American consultant through his cultural biases that threatened completion of his assignment when abruptly he was named to replace a host country plant manager. We typically provide two 60-minute telephone coaching sessions a month, augmented by appropriate e-mail exchanges. The services continue as long as they are requested. The lengths of those relationships have lasted from three months to an entire year. Expatriate Crisis Coaching is much less expensive, both financially and emotionally, than an aborted assignment.
